Pallet jacks are useful equipment for the movement of goods which are heavy. The goods are lifted slightly from the floor ensuring just enough lift to make for safe transportation to another area.
Warehouses, factories and any large storage facility will benefit from the usage of pallet jacks which offer the following advantages:
Pallet jacks have been designed specifically to support heavy weights. The equipment has forks which simply slide underneath the required load and gently lift the equipment just enough to make for transportation. A hydraulic system is used for the lifting action. Also called pump trucks the equipment has wheels mounted at the inside end of the forks.
The two main types in use today are the manual and motorized pump trucks. Manual versions are more suitable for indoor usage and warehouses where the goods on pallets are stored on the ground. The operator does not actually sit on the pump truck, but rather walks behind and makes use of an easy to operate steering device to operate the pump truck. Once the fork is slid underneath the goods on the pallet, the worker then activates the lifting mechanism through the use of a lever. The operator will then walk behind the pump truck to the area where the pallet should be placed.
Motorized or powered pump trucks are well suited for areas where a lot of stacking takes place. The operator can stand on a small platform and the motor will then provide the required power for the lifting of the specific goods. It includes stabilizing mechanisms. The unit also has a throttle for forward and backward movement as well as for controlling the angle of the load on the forks. In some instances, seating for the operator will be available.
