Pneumatic forklift tyres are the air-filled tyres. This type of tyre is extremely suitable for forklifts operating on rough terrain due to their rugged durability and resultant long lifespan. The air cushion the tyres provide also act as protective measure for the forklift against the rough terrain, extending its functional operating time.

An alternative is to use solid rubber tyres. They are similar in appearance to the pneumatic tyres, but consist of solid rubber rather than being filled with air. The advantage of these tyres is that they cannot puncture or run flat. As a disadvantage they do not offer the protection provided by the air cushion. These tyres last very long and are a good choice for indoor or light outdoor use. They are, however, not recommended for long-term use on rough terrain.

Polyurethane forklift tyres are best suited for indoor use. They provide the right level of traction and their low rolling resistance serves to extend their lifespan. These tyres are used predominantly for reach trucks.

When choosing between standard or press-on tyres, take into consideration that the press-on version is easier to put on the forklift, but will not function well on rough terrain. They are rather suited for indoor use. Standard tyres are fitted like normal car tyres and can withstand the demands of a rough terrain.
