Reach Truck

A reach truck can help you optimise your workspace

Across all types of industry, somewhere along the supply chain you are bound to find the use of forklifts. They have become an integral part of almost every operation at some point or another. Because of their widespread versatility, there have been many different designs and adaptations over the years, certain changes that made this reliable workhorse suited for more specialised tasks or simply more productive in general. One of the most useful and well-known variations of the basic forklift, is the reach truck. This operates on the same premise as the standard fork truck, but has the added ability that it can lift objects even higher, making them more useful than simply for loading and off-loading trucks.

The ability of a reach truck to lift objects to heights over 5 metres make them perfect good carriers for warehousing. They are also narrow-aisle trucks, meaning that they can operate in warehouses and factories that have narrower than normal aisles, as opposed to the wide aisles needed by conventional counterbalance lift trucks. With warehousing costs continuously on the rise, this also proves to be a big advantage. Space can be utilised optimally, as racks can be higher and placed closer together. In fact, due to the aisle spacing, the use of a reach truck can improve usable space by up to 21 per cent.

Another advantage of the reach truck to warehouses is the fact that it is powered by batteries, rather than petrol or diesel. These motors provide much lower levels of noise, making operations easier. They also do not produce the harmful exhaust gasses that are typical of traditional fuel engines, making them highly suitable for indoor use. One thing that you have to consider, however, is what power source the batteries would require for recharging. The specific charger needed for your truck might require a specific power outlet that is not available on your site, and will thus have to be installed.

One reach truck might also differ from another with regards to standing or sitting operators, or whether it steers clockwise or anti-clockwise. Your choice will be influenced by the layout of your building. Elite Forklifts Rental are professional suppliers of a range of lift trucks and can help you determine which one would suit you best.
